FAQ's about root canal therapy

We always try to help you detect any dental problems early at your regular check-up and clean appointments.

However, some patients are at a higher risk of developing dental cavities or are more susceptible to cracked teeth than others.

These problems can cause bacteria to travel from the mouth to the centre of the tooth where your nerve (pulp) exists. When the bacteria travels to the nerve, it becomes inflamed which can cause some severe pain initially. This will eventually lead to a dead nerve and an infection will form along with an abscess (pus).

The only way to save your tooth when the nerve is inflamed or dead is to clean up the nerve, which exists as a canal (tube) inside the root. This process is known as root canal treatment. This process involves 2 – 3 visits where our experienced team will remove and clean up the infected nerve and seal it off to prevent any further bacterial infection.

Once the bacteria is removed, any unpleasant pain will be alleviated and our chances of keeping the tooth is a lot higher. Most of the teeth that undergo root canal therapy become brittle so in most cases we would recommend a dental crown for extra protection.

It is best for you come in to see one of our friendly dentists who will assess your tooth and determine whether it needs a root canal therapy. If it does, we have all the latest technology to perform the root canal treatment efficiently and accurately, and hopefully, you’ll even get to sleep during your appointment!

The cost of root canal therapy varies depending on the anatomy of the tooth. Some teeth have 1 root canal and soem back teeth can have 4-5 root canals. The more canals ) tube) we have to clean the more difficult, and hence more time amd materials are needed. Here at Ultra Smiles we believe in affordable dentistry so most of our patients pay off their treatment in stages. Typically the costs for one canal starts from $700-800.

Once the nerve is infected the symptoms may occur suddenly. It is best if you experience any of these symptoms to seek a dental professional urgently before it becomes more severe:

  • Pain on hot or cold stimuli ( could be food, liquids or air)
  • Pain on biting or pressure
  • Mobile teeth
  • Swollen and sore gums.
  • Inability to sleep due to tooth pain
  • Facial swelling
  • Presence of pus
